A Young Adult Dystopian Short Story

His little sister is all he has left. Now, he might lose her too.

Scraping out an existence in the crumbling Lower City, fourteen-year-old Dex is the sole caretaker of his baby sister—and she’s dying. But in the dystopian kingdom of Imperia, where an implanted chip dictates a person’s social class and healing knowledge is hoarded by the elite, the government couldn’t care less for the life of one little girl.

Defying the laws of the kingdom, seeking out a sympathetic healer, and harboring a dangerous secret his parents left behind, Dex must grapple with the painful personal cost of saving Ari before it’s too late.

Young Adult Dystopian Novel

Blurb

Prince Justin only wanted to save his mentor’s life. He didn’t know he would cause his kingdom to implode.

In a world where an implanted chip dictates a person’s social class and knowledge is hoarded by the elite, Prince Justin would rather ignore the issues that divide the kingdom of Imperia. But when his mentor, Healer Reistad, is sentenced to death for illegally healing Lowers in the Lower City, his world crumbles. Forced to choose between letting Healer Reistad die or allying with the Lower City rebels, Justin turns traitor and casts his lot in with the rebels.

The rebels promise to help Justin save Healer Reistad in return for his help. But the kingdom of Imperia is already rotting from the inside out, and Justin’s actions on behalf of the rebels only escalate the kingdom’s demise—and threaten to undermine Healer Reistad’s attempts to bridge the gap between the classes.

As conflict between the classes escalates, entire cities are threatened with extinction, and the cost to save them may be higher than Justin is willing to pay. But no matter what he chooses—he can’t save everyone.
